The Vessels

We have three vessels operating our whale watch cruises, the 50 ft (15.2 m) Mega Nova, the 24 ft (7.3 m) Cetacean Adventure and the 26 ft (7.9 m) Cetacean Defender. All are certified passenger vessels which meet or exceed all Transport Canada and Canadian Coast Guard safety standards.

The MV Mega Nova is a 50 foot (15.2 metre) fibreglass Cape Island Style boat certified to carry 50 passengers. It is equipped with an open viewing deck at main level and an upper observation deck, as well as seats, rails, washroom and shelter. It is a very seaworthy, stable craft and very comfortable on the water.

The name Mega Nova is derived from the scientific name of the humpback whale, Megaptera novaeangliae which translates to “Big Winged New Englander”.

The Cetacean Defender

The Cetacean Defender is a 2021 Zodiac 750 Pro – a 26ft (7.9 metre) Rigid HJull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) powered by a  4 stroke 200 HP Yamaha engine. The ability to reach a speed of up to 35 knots enable us to reach the whales much faster allowing for more time spent observing them.

RHIBS are stable craft, with each having a fibreglass hull and 5 independant hypalon chambers. This craft are designed for commercial use and are very stable on the open water.
